About the name… Lakme

Many years ago a youngster in the Carreras family would spend his Saturdays singing to the family’s salon patrons for tips. Years later that little boy, Jose Carreras would become world famous as one of “The Three Tenors”, singing alongside Placido Damingo and Luciano Pavorati. The name Lakme is taken from a 19th century French opera, one of the Carreras family’s favorites.
